Power transformers are one of the most important components in today’s transmission and distribution infrastructure. Power outages and unplanned repairs caused by transformer failures can become significant expenses. Therefore, it is particularly important to avoid transformer faults and conduct reliable and efficient testing and diagnosis.
The FRAX series sweep frequency response analyzer (SFRA) can detect mechanical and electrical changes in iron cores and windings. The FRA method has been used by major power companies and contractors for over 10 years. The measurement process is very simple. By obtaining a unique “fingerprint” of the transformer and comparing it with the reference “fingerprint”, the conclusion of whether the mechanical components of the transformer have changed can be directly obtained.
The deviation of the fingerprint indicates that the mechanical or electrical structure inside the transformer has changed.
The issues that FRAX can detect include: winding deformation and displacement
Interturn short circuit and winding open circuit
Tightening structure damaged, iron core connection fault, local coil collapse, iron core grounding fault, iron core displacement
